"That I May Serve"
The Tidewater Chapter has established as one of its major priorities to give back to the Southside Hampton Roads area by supporting various worthy organizations by volunteering our Hokie time and talents.
As an example, last fall during the Homearama held in Ocean View, we supported Children’s Hospital by supplying all the Volunteers for Friday evening, Saturday & Sunday, October 22nd-24th to sell tickets for all the furniture within the CHKD house. Our volunteers sold $2,976 in tickets on that last weekend of Homearama.
This past fall our Board endorsed four organizations for support by our Alumni Volunteers. Two we have supported previously, Children’s Hospital & the FoodBank of SE Virginia and added the Habitat for Humanity and the Special Olympics. We are currently working with all four organizations to develop specific activities where our Volunteers can have a significant impact. In addition, the Board has established a long-term goal of building a Habitat House somewhere on the Southside. Who else but our Alumni have the expertise and ability to build a great Hokie Habitat House!!!
