FAQ

We cover Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth and north east North Carolina. There is a VTAA chapter on the Peninsula and a chapter for Suffolk and areas further west.
NADA! There are no membership fees. We are purely a volunteer organization. Some people will make donations to the chapter’s scholarship fund in lieu of a membership fee but that is entirely up to them. Since there are no membership fees, all events are “pay as you go” and most are free to attend like the Hokie Happy Hours and Football Game Watching parties.
Not exactly. Although we all support Virginia Tech, the Hokie Club is a formal membership related organization that supports the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund. For more information please checkout their website and consider joining this valuable organization!

As you can imagine, we raise money for our scholarship fund in a variety of ways. The majority of our donated funds come from two of our annual fundraising events that are held in the spring. The first is a Wine Tasting and Scholarship Auction, and the second is our annual Golf Tournament. All money collected through donations, raffle tickets, auctioned items, and hole sponsorship go directly into the scholarship fund.

We also raise money through relationships we have formed with many local Hokie owned or “Hokie Friendly” local businesses. We advertise these businesses on our website, emails, chapter events, and programs, and in return they make generous donations to our chapter. Check out our Sponsorship Page to see the companies that support our efforts.

We hold two major fundraising events per year. They are our annual Golf Tournament and annual Wine Tasting and Scholarship Auction. As a general rule, the fee collected to participate covers the cost to the chapter to host the event. Most, if not all, of the money collected through the hole sponsorship, raffle tickets and donations, and auctioned items goes directly into the scholarship fund.

We also raise money through relationships we have formed with many local “Hokie Friendly” businesses. We help them by giving them advertising space on our website and mentioning them in chapter emails and at chapter events. They help us by making donations to the chapter. Check out our sponsorship page to see the companies that support our efforts.

The best way to get actively involved is come to our next event to meet your fellow Tidewater Hokies! Visit our Events Page to view our schedule.  You can also contact Chapter President, Chris Jennings, at (757) 574-8139.

There is something for everyone to get involved in!  We start off the alumni year with our our annual Hokie Jubilee and New Student Send Off, then we host Summer Hokie Happy Hours, and Fall Football Game Watching Parties.  We look forward to seeing you at our next event!

We have our annual “Hokie Bird Fights Hunger” campaign where we volunteer at the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia.  We also support the American Cancer Society and the Kam Cares Foundation.
